Alan entered the service in July 1944. His basic training was in Denver, CO. He took additional training at Las Vegas, NV. He was also stationed in Kingman, AZ and Midland, TX. His overseas tour of duty included a stint in Okinawa. He served as a Gunner. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, Victory and Occupation of Japan medals, overseas service bars plus American and Asiatic-Pacific theater service ribbons. He left the service in August 18, 1946.
