Civilain:
Bide was born August 20, 1894 at Kenyon, Goodhue County, Minnesota.  The native country of his father, John and mother, Amelia was Germany.  Prior to enlistment he was employed as a shoe maker at the Shaft Pierce Shoe Company and at time he resided at 1105 Central Avenue Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota.  He returned to this residence and occupation when he was discharged.

Military Service Record:
Bide enlisted on May 20, 1918 for the duration of the War at Minneapolis, Minnesota as a Seaman with serial number 112-99-18.  His original assignment was with the U.S. Naval Reserve Force.  He was initally received  on ship at Norfolk, Virginia.  On May 29, 1918 he was transferred to the Naval Training Station at Hampton Roads, Virginia where he served until honorably discharged on December 13, 1919.  Some inactive duty at the Naval Training Camp at Charleston, South Carolina is noted in his record.  He served as Landsman for Quartermaster Aviation for 159 days, and as Quartermaster 2nd Class for 16 days.
