Civilian:Boie was born on September 6, 1893 at Wang, Valdris, Norway. Wang was also the birthplace of his father and mother. His uncle Henry A. Boie sold "Hardware, Paints, Oils and Glass" at 408 Division and lived at 818 Division, Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. At the time of his induction into military service Boie was a farmer near Northfield. When Boie was discharged he returned to Northfield and lived at the St. Olaf College.
Military Record:Boie was inducted into military service on July 26, 1918 at Faribualt, Rice County, Minnesota as a Private with serial number 4,069,617 and ordered to report to Camp Wadsworth, Spartanburg, South Carolina on August 7, 1918. He was originally assigned to Company D of the 5th Pioneer Infantry. From July 30 to September 3, 1918 Boie trained at Camp Wadsworth. On August 10, 1918 he was transferred to Company K of the 54th Pioneer Infantry, 6th Division until discharged. His record also notes assignments: "Army of Occupation, 22nd Engineers." and "Company K, 54th Infantry, Headquarter Troops 3 (G?) Army". On September 3, 1918 he embarked from Camp Stewart on the ship "Cocerter(sp?)" and arrived at (unstated) on September 16, 1918. From September 26 to November 11, 1918 Boie was stationed at Argonne, France. On September 27 he went into the action of the Meusse Argonne Offensive. On December 18, 1918 he was promoted to Private 1st Class. On June 26, 1919 he returned on ship to Camp Stewart and on July 5, 1919 he was honorably discharged as Private 1st Class at Camp Grant. He was reported as 0 % disabled at that time.
