Civilian:
Carl was born on March 25, 1896 at Ostrander, Filmore County, Minnesota. His father, O.A.,and his mother were both born in Norway. At the time of Carl's discharge his father was residing at Crosby, North Dakota. Also at that time his mother was deceased. At the time of Carl's induction he was a student at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota. Then, he was residing at RFD 5, Box 9, Northfield. When discharged Carl returned to this address and resumed his former postion in civilian life.
Military Service Record:
Carl participated in some military training with Company A, of the Minnesota "home" National Guard and the St. Olaf Cadet Corps. The Rice County Draft Board received a General Order dated April 20, 1918 requesting that Carl be inducted into the Signal Corps, Land Training Section and report for duty to the Commanding Officer, 28th Service Company, School for Radio Mechanics, Carnegie Institute of Technology, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Carl was inducted into this service on May 6, 1918, at Pittsburg, Pennsylvania and assigned the serial number 2,489,896. He was ordered to report for duty on May 11 at the Signal Corps School for Radio Mechanics at Pittsburgh. On August 1 he transferred to the 297th Aero Provisional Service Squadron where he served until August 27, 1918. On September 1, 1918 he embarked from New York on the ship Anehisis(Auehisis[sp?]). On September 13 he arrived at Liverpool, England. From October 3 to March 1, 1919 he was stationed at Orly, France. On July 13, 1919 he arrived in New York. On July 19 he was honorably discharged as a Private at Camp Mills, Long Island, New York. He was reported as 0% disabled at that time.
