Chuck entered the service in September 1942. His basic training was in San Diego, CA. His overseas tour of duty included several engagements with the enemy in the Solomon Islands. He served as a gun operator and saw action at Vella Vella and Toluga Bay. He was awarded five Battle Stars, Pacific theater service ribbons and his unit received a Presidential Citation.
