Biography: 

Civilian:
Daniel was born on May 18, 1890 at Webster, Rice County, Minnesota.  His father, Michael J., and his mother, Mary A. (maiden name Eylward) were both born in the USA.  Before entry into military service he was single and was farming.  He listed his address at that time to be Route 5, Northfield, Rice County, Minnesota.  When discharged from military service he returned to Northfield and resumed his former activities. 

Military Service Record:
Daniel was inducted into military service on May 24, 1918 at Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota as a Private and was issued serial number 2,787,977.  He was ordered to report to Camp Lewis, American Lake, Washington on May 30.  He was originally assigned to Company 22, Infantry, 91st Division. He was with the 166th Dep Brigade.  On June 3 he was transferred to the 27th Spruce Squadron 2nd Provisional Regiment, Cut up Plant , Vancouver Barricks, Washington.  On November 15, 1918 he was promoted to Private 1st Class.  On December 28, 1919 he was honorably discharged as a Private 1st Class at Camp Dodge, Iowa.  He was reported as 0% disabled at that time.

His military file contains the following letter written by his father, M.J. Broderick, that was a response to a request from Frank M. Kaisersatt, the County Auditor for information about his service overseas:

"Daniel J Broderick did not go overseas.  He went from Camp Lewis, Washington to the saw mills at Vancouver Barricks, Washington.  So there are some questions we cannot answer at present.  If you need any more information will try to get it.  Much obliged for the interest you are taking in the soldier boys of Rice County."
