Civilian: Harold was born on February 23, 1892 at Walcott, Rice County, Minnesota. His father, Edward was born in Iceland and his mother was born in England. His father was a resident of Faribault, Minnesota. Harold was employed as mechanic by Conrad Sutton. He listed Homedale, Idaho as his residence before entry into the service. On July 14, 1921 he notes on his entry into his State of Minnesota Military Service Record that his home address is Faribault, Minnesota, and also footnotes "departing for Los Angeles, California by automobile via National Park."
Military Service Record:Bert was inducted into military service on July 6, 1918 at Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota as a Private and assigned a serial number of 2,142,033. He was ordered to report to Camp Dodge, Iowa on July 13. At Camp Dodge he was assigned to "7 Co 163 Dep Brig." On July 27 he was transferred to the 350th Infantry, 88th Division. On August 5 he embarked on the ship Delta from Hoboken, New Jersey. On August 23, 1918 he arrived at South Hampton, England. On August 24 he arrived at Chubourg France. He participated in battle at Alsace Sector. On May 30, 1919 he arrived at New Port News, Virginia. On either probably June or possibly September (inconsistent record) 6, 1919 he was honorably discharged as a Private at Camp Dodge, Iowa. He had received no wounds or injuries in battle and was reported as 0% disabled at that time.
