James L. Lovrien of Ellsworth, MN volunteered for the draft and entered active duty July 29, 1965. He received his basic training at Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He completed U.S. Officer Candidate School at Fort Sill Oklahoma in September, 1966 and was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant. He took additional training at Fort Lewis and Fort Gulick. His overseas tour of duty included various assignments in the Central Highlands of South Vietnam. He returned home in 1969 and was released from active duty. He then served from 1969-1697 in the Minnesota Army National Guard.
