James was born September 7, 1935 in St. Cloud, MN, son of Alfred and Ruth Streitz. In 1937 he moved with his family to Minneapolis, where he spent his childhood and attended school. In 1954 they moved to Dundas and in 1961 to Dennison where Alfred owned and operated Streitz Sheet Metal. In July 1953 James joined the Army and served in Germany for one year. After his discharge in 1956 he moved to Northfield and attended Dunwoody Institute in Minneapolis to learn the sheet metal trade. James was a life long sheet metal worker and for many years worked for Local 10 of the Sheet Metal Union. James was an active member and past commander of the Northfield VFW.
