Miles was born on September 22, 1896 at Vernon Center, Blue Earth County, Minnesota.  His father, D.L. and his mother, Mrs. D.L. listed the USA as their native country. 
Miles resided at and considered his home to be at Vernon Center, Blue Earth County, Minnesota where he was employed as a ditcher. When he was discharged he entered
motor school and he indicates that he "Served Six Months with A.R.C. and went with (sp?)Rumanian Com."

Military Service Record:
Miles enlisted on May 21, 1917 at Amboy, Blue Earth County, Minnesota into the Medical Detachment of the Minnesota National Guard, 136th Infantry, 34th Division as
a Private and was issued a serial number of 1429595.  He served in this assignment from July 17, 1917 to October 13, 1918.  His locations during this time were at Northfield,
Rice County, Minnesota from July 17, 1919 to September 27, 1917; at Camp Cody, New Mexico from October 1, 1917 to August 23, 1918; and at Camp Dix, New Jersey
from August 27, 1918 to October 13, 1918.  On October 13, 1918 Miles embarked from Hoboken, New Jersey on the ship Dunvegan Castle.  His overseas assignments began
with the Medical Cas. Company, 83rd Division, Le Mans, France on November 11, 1918.  He was then transferred as follows: to Camp Hospital 101, 83rd Division, Camp
[B?]Deauvoir, France on November 14, 1918; to 516 Cas. Company 1st Rep., Thisee, France on November 23, 1918; to Detachment. In. Squad. Number 9, 1st Rep.,
St. Aignan, France on December 27, 1918 and to Medical Detachment Class Camp, St. Aignan, France on March 1, 1919.  Miles was honorably discharged on May 3, 1919.
He suffered no wounds and was reported as 0% disabled.
