Thomas was born on June 14, 1896 at Kilkenny, LeSuer County, Minnesota. The native country of his father, Thomas and mother, Anna was the USA. His and their residential address was Route 1, Kilkenny. Thomas was a farmer and was single. When he was discharged he resumed his farming career at Kilkenny.
Military Service Record:
Thomas was inducted into military service on June 25, 1918 at Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota as a Private and issued a serial number of 3,334,476. On June 28 he reported to Camp Grant, Rockford, Illinois where he was assigned to Company I, 341st Infantry, 86th Division. On August 18 he was assigned to the 309th Machine Gun Battalion, Headquarters Company Def(sp?), France. On September 8 Thomas embarked from Hoboken, New Jersey. On September 21 he arrived at Liverpool, England. From September 26 to October 5, 1918 he was stationed at Bordeaux, France. On October 10 he went into action at Argonne. He participated in the battle Muese Argonne. On March 15, 1919 he was promoted to Wagoner. On May 27, 1919 Thomas returned to Hoboken, New Jersey. On June 8, 1919 he was honorably discharged as a Wagoner at Camp Dodge, Iowa.
His Rice County file contains a letter written by his father as follows:
Kilkenny, Minn,
December 2, 1918
Dear Sir:
I have filled out the blank as far as I could but the date of sailing or arriving overseas we don't know.
We got the card saying he arrived safely overseas on September 25, 1918.
