Civilian:
William was born on February 14, 1899 at Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota.  His father and his mother, Sarah E.,  were both born in the USA.  His mother is listed in the 1918 Rice County Directory as a widow residing at 224 West 1st Avenue South, Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota.   William was employed by the Citizens National Bank as a bookkeeper.  He resided at 128 Southwest 1st Avenue, Faribault, Rice County, Minnesota.

Military Service Record:
William was inducted as a Private into the U.S. Marine Corp at St. Paul, Minnesota on November 14, 1918.  He was ordered to report at 154 E. 7th Street, St. Paul, Minnesota on November 15, 1918.  He was then stationed at Paris Island, South Carolina from November 18, 1918 to April 11, 1919.
